About the instructor:
has dedicated most of her professional life to adult language education. She received her B.A. in Foreign Languages Education from Marmara University in Istanbul. For over 11 years, she worked at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Maritime School as an English for Specific Purposes instructor. After retiring from ITU, she joined Maltepe University Foreign Languages department and worked there for another 11 years. During her professional life, she received numerous distinguished service awards both from the Turkish Ministry of Education and from the ITU Maritime School Board. In 2015, she moved to the U.S. with her husband to be closer to their first granddaughter. Şükriye quickly discovered a wonderful Turkish community in the Washington DC area and joined the board of the Washington Turkish Women’s Association to work with this community and give something back to Turkish children in need.
Despite her official retirement, she considers herself a forever educator (as her kids can attest!). She is looking forward to working with the ATA-DC team to both teach the Turkish language and share the rich Turkish traditions with students interested in Turkey.
